Workplace Flexibility

We understand that life doesn’t stop when you’re at work. Rise supports a flexible work environment that allows for flexible hours.

  • Flexible hours: A better work/life balance can start at home in the morning then end at the office in the afternoon. We encourage staff to find the schedule that works best for them. Staff can start earlier and leave earlier or work from home.
  • Hybrid workplace: We have staff that work in-office, remotely or as a combination of the two. Full time and part-time, we recognize the need for work-life balance.
  • 4-day summer work weeks: Our office operates on a reduced summer schedule every July and August.
  • Flexible Dress Code: Our business casual work environment allows you to dress for your day, wherever the day takes you.

Mentorship and Training

Our focus on professional development has allowed us to improve the career trajectories of our staff and grow our business.

  • Open-door policy: Partners and managers take the time to work, teach, and collaborate with anyone who needs support.
  • Culture of accountability: We encourage two-way discussion of individual contributions between employees and their supervisors on a regular basis.
  • Performance reviews: The process includes a balanced scorecard, weekly priority setting meetings as well as formal semi-annual performance reviews.
  • LinkedIn Learning:Rise employees have access to video courses taught by industry experts in software, creative, and business skills.
  • CPA training environment: Rise CPA is an accredited training firm. Topics include accounting processes, tax facts, audit procedures, accounting software use, and interpersonal skills.
  • Supported study and exam time: For those writing their CFE, Rise allows up to eight weeks off to study and write on a first attempt. To support the MPACC program, we also offer days off for the CPA Prep program and module exam.

Competitive Compensation

In addition to competitive salaries, Rise also offers a variety of compensation opportunities available to our employees.

  • Vacation time: Employees get a minimum of 15 vacation days and can earn up to 25 vacation days based on years of employment. Additionally, Rise has a regular holiday year-end office closure on top of the regular vacation allowance.
  • CPA dues reimbursement: Rise pays the annual dues of CPAs and other designated employees for the federal and provincial associations in which they hold memberships.
  • CPA course reimbursement: For all courses required to obtain the CPA designation, Rise will reimburse 100% of the cost of approved courses.
  • Parental leave: Rise allows for a top-up of employment insurance equivalent to the employee’s normal salary for 8 weeks for the primary caregiver parent and 4 weeks for the secondary caregiver.
  • RRSP contributions: Rise offers a Deferred Profit-Sharing Plan as well as a Group Retirement Saving Plan to help employees build capital and save for the future.
  • Annual salary review and bonuses: Salary and bonus considerations are part of performance and scorecard reviews. Several factors are considered including the performance of the employee and their contribution to Rise’s success.
  • Candidate referral incentive: If an employee refers a candidate for employment and that candidate is hired, the referring employee will be entitled to receive a recruiting incentive payment.

Staff Events and Activities

The Rise Social Committee organizes workshops and monthly group activities to help play an active role in the success of our employees.

  • Community involvement: Rise sponsors various local events with the possibility of staff participation. Examples include the Crossroads Hospice Society Hike for Hospice, the Vancouver Sun Run, and various charity golf tournaments.
  • Social gatherings: A great way to stay connected with colleagues and the local community. Examples include our yearly holiday party, “end of busy season” events, sporting event outings, summer BBQs.
  • Networking events: We regularly organize events with business alliances and key businesses to allow our teams to meet and network. These events include golfing tournaments, Chamber of Commerce events, and alliance get togethers.
  • Educational workshops: These may be presented by managers, partners or outside experts throughout the year. Examples include Toastmasters workshops, CPA training, and LinkedIn Learning classes.

Your First Day At Rise

More than just an accounting firm, Rise believes that its greatest resource is its people. For this reason, the firm encourages and supports the professional development of all employees. Onboarding: All new employees receive an onboarding package and hands-on training for the first few weeks to get accustomed to Rise procedures. Mentoring and on-the-job training with Managers or Partners is a key aspect of employee development.

Day 1
Your first day starts off with an office tour where you meet and greet your new coworkers. Then, you get set up on your personal workstation.
After getting acquainted with standard HR paperwork and chatting with your new priority staff member, your team will take you out to lunch. Then end the day with a few LinkedIn Learning classes.

Day 2
You’ll continue your onboarding process with some video training on LinkedIn Learning.
Then you’ll have a priority meeting and walkthrough your balanced scorecard for performance reviews.
Then end the day with more training and finalizing standard employment forms.

Day 3
Finish up some more LinkedIn Learning classes and missing HR forms.
Then meet with Resource Management to discuss tasks and workload.
Finally, you’ll walk through your first accounting file with your priority person.
