Proposed Changes to British Columbia PST

The B.C. government forecasted a record ~$13 billion deficit in its 2026 provincial budget that was released earlier this year. The budget included proposed changes to various legislation, included an expanded Provincial Sales Tax (PST) to several new professional services, including accounting, tax filing, and bookkeeping services. The new rules are proposed to be effective on October 1, 2026. If enacted, providers of such professional services will need to collect BC PST at 7%.

The proposed rules are broad and will include most of the main services that CPA firms commonly provide to their clients, including the services provided by Rise CPA. Generally, accounting services provided in B.C. to a person who resides, ordinarily resides, or carries on business in B.C. are subject to PST. Accounting services provided outside of B.C. but relate to B.C. real property or transactions are still generally subject to PST.

The legislation is in draft form and is still subject to change. We will provide an update as soon as additional information is available.
